A Better Model for Hospital⁠–⁠Physician Partnerships

OSMD helps hospitals develop and maintain Hospital Medicine programs centered on physician continuity, long-term relationships, and alignment with hospital priorities. OSMD is not designed to provide temporary or episodic coverage. Instead, we work with hospitals to create durable physician workforce relationships in which participating physicians contract directly with the hospital.

Depending on the organization, OSMD may support most or all of the hospitalist service or provide a stable component of a larger existing physician workforce. Each program is developed around the hospital’s patient volume, existing medical staff, clinical needs, and long-term objectives.

OSMD supports hospitals seeking to establish, stabilize, or expand long-term Pulmonary & Critical Care physician capacity. The need may involve critical care coverage, pulmonary services, physician recruitment, or development of a broader clinical program.

OSMD approaches Pulmonary & Critical Care as a sustainable service-line relationship rather than a temporary staffing assignment. Each opportunity is evaluated according to the hospital’s clinical needs, existing physician resources, patient population, infrastructure, market conditions, and long-term objectives.

OSMD works with hospitals developing or expanding long-term Cardiology physician services. Depending on the hospital, physician needs may involve inpatient consultation, outpatient care, procedural capabilities, call responsibilities, or broader service-line development.

The objective is to establish recurring physician relationships that support the hospital’s clinical and strategic goals rather than provide temporary assignments. OSMD evaluates each Cardiology program individually based on community need, existing physician resources, hospital infrastructure, physician availability, and the ability to support a sustainable long-term program.

OSMD supports hospitals seeking dependable, long-term Trauma Surgery physician resources aligned with the needs of the trauma program, medical staff, and hospital.

The objective is to build recurring physician relationships capable of supporting the program over time rather than filling isolated short-term assignments. OSMD evaluates factors such as the hospital’s trauma program, existing physician resources, clinical responsibilities, recruitment environment, and long-term organizational goals before determining whether an OSMD relationship is appropriate.

Primary Care is an active OSMD physician service. OSMD works with healthcare organizations seeking to establish or strengthen long-term physician capacity in outpatient and community-based care.

The goal is to create sustainable physician relationships that improve access, continuity, and integration with the broader healthcare organization. Each Primary Care opportunity is evaluated based on patient and community need, physician availability, existing infrastructure, market conditions, and the organization’s long-term objectives.

Urgent Care is an active OSMD physician service. OSMD can help healthcare organizations develop stable physician resources for urgent and unscheduled outpatient care while supporting continuity with the broader healthcare system.

OSMD’s focus remains on recurring, long-term physician relationships rather than temporary staffing. Program design depends on patient demand, physician availability, existing clinical resources, geography, operating needs, and the organization’s long-term goals.

OSMD evaluates additional specialties and physician programs individually. We do not represent a specialty as an established OSMD service solely because a hospital has an open position.

Before pursuing a new program, OSMD considers the hospital’s recurring physician need, physician availability, market conditions, existing infrastructure, strategic fit, and whether the opportunity can support a sustainable long-term relationship.
